Shadow Puppetry is an ancient art that is said to have originated in China, when the emperor Wu-Ti, saddened at the death of a beautiful lady, commanded the court magician to bring her back.The magician produced Wu-Ti's true love by casting her shadow on a screen, and the emperor's sadness was lightened. Since then, shadow puppet plays have been presented in Asia and the Middle East to tell stories of history, legend and folklore.

See-More is SBT's hallmark puppet character. He appears in every main stage show, and represents each youngster in the audience. Like a child in its parent's lap, See-More observes and participates. He is held securely in the Storyteller's arms, creating an intimate and safe space where he embodies the universal wonder of childhood. When the children leave the theatre after the show, they often hug and kiss him goodbye.

"In the bottom of a beautiful sea lived a little striped fish named Spinny. Even though Spinny was a little fish, he had BIG IDEAS. Whenever Spinny had a BIG IDEA he would spin 3 times. That's how he got his name."

"He had many friends. Each fish was different color and swam in a different way. Red Fish was round and swam in big circles. Blue Fish, like an angelfish, would glide in the water. Yellow Fish, long and thin, slid down the coral reefs. Green Fish swam fast -- zip, zip, zip. And then there were the little baby fish who always played follow the leader."

"Spinny and his friends played games in the clear blue water. Sometimes they played a singing game, calling to each other. They liked to show off their special way of swimming. But most of all, even though they were each very different, they liked swimming together in two straight lines, as a school of fish. They'd swim and sing "Yes, we are a school of fish, little fish, tiny fish! Yes, we are a school of fish, swimming in the water!"
